General Overview of PC based Transcription
There are three basic steps to be taken to perform PC based transcription. The first step is to record the dictation into digital .wav file format. The second step is to transfer the digital dictation file to the person doing the transcription. The final step involves "playing" the recording so it may be transcribed. In order to address the first step, getting the dictation into a digital .wav file format, you can use Dictation Buddy and a microphone or you can use Dictation Buddy to re-record from another recording device (such as a mini-cassette player). There are also a number of stand-alone recording devices that record in digital format and have facilities to upload the recording to the PC. Regardless of the exact procedure, your recording should now be in a digital .wav file. Once the dictation is in .wav format, you must transfer it to the person doing the transcription. One way to transfer the file is to make it an email attachment. This is probably the most simple solution, but it is probably not a very good approach. Many sound files will be rejected as email attachments, because they are too large. Also, in cases where the dictation involves medical or health related information, there may be a requirement to secure the information in the file. Users must review their requirements for security and address these issues accordingly. After the .wav file has been received by the person doing the transcription,
they may "play" the recording, using Dictation Buddy. Dictation Buddy
has a number of features designed specifically for transcription. These include:
