High Criteria Announces Total Recorder Professional Edition and Standard Edition Versions 4.0

High Criteria Inc. Announces the Immediate Availability of Total Recorder Professional Edition and Total Recorder Standard Edition Versions 4.0.

July 24, 2002, Toronto, Canada

High Criteria Inc, a world leader in computer audio recording systems, today announced the immediate availability of two new versions of its flagship product, Total Recorder. Both the Professional Edition and the Standard Edition are now available at Version 4.0.

Total Recorder Professional Edition offers new features and functionality that will be of interest to serious recording enthusiasts. Specifically, the Professional Edition introduces a number of significant feature enhancements including:

  • The inclusion of a mini-browser in the Recording Scheduler. The mini-browser allows Total Recorder to connect to any pre-defined Internet site and invoke the applicable player, to play an Internet transmission. Development of this feature eliminates the requirement that users leave their browsers active and connected to a website, if they have scheduled a future recording of an Internet transmission.
  • Enhanced sound data editing features. Users can now delete parts of a recording, append a sound file or insert it anywhere within a recording. They can also use the Clipboard for cut, copy, and paste operations. For more information, refer to the "Editing a Sound File" section of the program Help.
  • New options in the Recording Scheduler allow Total Recorder to shutdown the PC after a scheduled recording is completed and also allow the user to initiate and terminate the dial-up connection that facilitates an Internet recording.
  • Split mode. A recording can now be split automatically into separate files, based on several different conditions. For example, a new recording file can automatically be created for each song in a playlist specified to a software player. Alternatively, a new file can be created once the recording file reaches a certain size or after a specified amount of time. For more information, refer to the "Using Split Mode" section of the program Help.
  • Advanced options for automatically stopping a recording. For example, you can restrict a recording by time or disk size, or specify a time limit for no sound being recorded.
  • Advanced automatic file name generation facilities that let you specify the names of automatically generated files. This feature compliments facilities that are available in the scheduler and "Split mode" features.

Total Recorder Professional Edition V4.0 is immediately available and may be downloaded and purchased from the High Criteria Web Site at www.highcriteria.com. The Professional Edition is available for $35.95 U.S. For a limited time, registered users of Total Recorder Standard Edition may upgrade to the Professional Edition for an upgrade fee of $24.00 U.S. Upgrade users should note that installation of the Professional Edition will remove the Standard Edition from the PC. If you evaluate the Professional Edition and decide not to proceed with a purchase, then you must re-install the Standard Edition, including the specification of your Standard Edition registration key. Standard Edition registration keys are not compatible with the Professional Edition.

Total Recorder Standard Edition Version 4.0 is also announced and available. This new version of the Standard Edition has a number of new features including:

  • Extended functionality of the Undo and Redo features.
  • The sensitivity of the sound level indicators has been increased.
  • The ability to directly use playback and recording devices. For more information, refer to the "Configuring Total Recorder"-"Using the System Tab" section.
  • Some minor enhancements have been made to the user interface.

Total Recorder Standard Edition Version 4.0 is available, free of charge, to purchasers of previous versions of Total Recorder Standard Edition. Existing customers may download and install the new version. Version 3.x registration keys are valid for version 4.0. If any 3.x version is already installed, users don't need to uninstall it, just run Setup.exe. Setup will remove the previous version, and will preserve all the settings, including the registration key.

If a user has a version 1.x or 2.x copy of Total Recorder, then they must obtain a new registration key by using the self-service registration key management system. This system uses the email address under which the product was originally purchased. If this email address is no longer valid, then users requiring a new key should email High Criteria at support@highcriteria.com. Users should specify their registration name and E-mail address from the time of registering and their new E-mail address.
