High Criteria Inc. Announces the Immediate Availability of Total Recorder Professional Edition, Total Recorder Standard Edition and Total Recorder Developer Edition, Versions 4.2.

May 1, 2003, Toronto, Canada

High Criteria Inc, a world leader in computer audio recording systems, today announced the immediate availability of new versions of its flagship product, Total Recorder. The Standard Edition, Professional Edition and the Developer Edition have all been upgraded to Version 4.2.

Total Recorder V4.2 offers a number of new features including support for Variable Bit Rate (VBR) recording in mp3 format. The VBR feature is available to users with version 3.93 and later of the Lame encoding dll. VBR recording allows the bit rate to fluctuate, according to the requirements of the sounds being recorded. VBR support can reduce the size of recorded files by minimizing the amount of data stored in the recording file.

In addition to support for Variable Bit Rate recording (VBR), Total Recorder Standard Edition also introduces a number of other new features including:

  • An mp3 file repair feature. If you experience problems with mp3 files (such as, problems determining file duration or with exact positioning), it may be because of an incorrect header. In such cases, you can use the mp3 file repair feature of Total Recorder to repair the file.
  • Enhanced automatic file name generation facilities. For mp3 and ogg vorbis files, information used in the Tag fields, can also now be used to automatically create file names.
  • Additional options for setting mp3 and Ogg Vorbis tags have been introduced.
  • Usability enhancements have been made to the "Jump-to-Time" facility.
  • The ability to sort scheduled jobs by starting time and date.
  • Additional compatibility options have been added. For example, the Total Recorder scheduler function and the Accelerate Recording mode may now both be turned off.
  • Other enhancements, including the ability to install Total Recorder without the Total Recorder sound driver. Choosing to install Total Recorder without the driver will restrict recording to Sound Board mode. Please be certain of your recording requirements, if you choose not to install the driver.

By default, the driver is always installed.

The Professional Edition V4.2 also introduces a number of new features including:

  • The ability to launch any application with the Total Recorder scheduler.
  • The ability to use the Split function on a previously recorded file.
  • Enhancements to the use of the Split facility, including a manual Split feature which allows the user to quickly break the file using the image of the sound.
  • Enhancements to the file name generation facilities of the Split facility.

The Total Recorder Developer Edition has also been updated to the V4.2 level. This new Developer Edition release includes all of the features and functionality that is available in the Total Recorder Professional Edition.

Version 4.2 of the Developer Edition adds the ability to simultaneously create multiple recording objects. For example, if the PC has multiple sound cards, you may simultaneously record from all of them.

All Total Recorder V4.2 Editions are immediately available and may be downloaded for evaluation and purchased from the High Criteria Web Site at www.highcriteria.com.
