High Criteria Inc. Announces the Immediate Availability of Transcription Buddy V3.0 Software Application

High Criteria Inc, a world leader in PC based audio recording systems, today announced the immediate availability of Transcription Buddy Version 3.0.

Transcription Buddy V3.0 introduces a number of new features that will be of interest to those who use their PCs to perform audio transcription. Transcription Buddy is the ideal solution for PC based transcription. New features include:

  • A Step-Back-on-Pause feature. This feature automatically rewinds the recording a defined number of seconds, whenever a pause in playback is selected. The amount of rewind is configured by the user and is specified in seconds. This feature is applicable to both the use of a foot pedal and the pause button on the application’s primary Window.
  • Support for 2 additional foot pedals. Transcription Buddy V3.0 adds support for both the Infinity USB foot pedal from VEC and the Olympus USB foot pedal. Support for the Vpedal foot pedal remains included in the program. This flexibility means that users can choose from a variety of pedals that are available on the market and those who already own pedals can use them with the software.
  • An automatic Play / Pause / Play feature. When enabled, this feature will Playback a recording, Pause the playback, then resume Playback. This Play / Pause /Play cycle will continue for the duration of the file playback. The Play / Pause times are fully configurable. This feature may be used to automatically pause the playback at certain intervals, so the user can catch-up in transcribing. In some cases, this feature can eliminate the requirement for a foot pedal or the use of Hot Keys to control playback.
  • Updates to the primary Transcription Buddy Window and views including:
    • A Thin View that only presents Transcription Buddy Playback controls and the Position meter.
    • An “Always On Top” view that keeps Transcription Buddy always in view and on top of other applications and,
    • A “Time Remaining in File” meter.
  • Updates to the Hot Keys including:
    • A Hot Key to minimize Transcription Buddy and
    • A Hot Key to add Transcription Buddy bookmarks.

  • Support for the playback of Olympus DSS files. Transcription Buddy V1.0 will convert DSS files to wav files and then play them back. Users of Olympus recording devices now use DSS format files regularly. The DSS format yields a highly compressed audio recording.

    Along with the DSS file playback facility, Transcription Buddy will automatically convert DSS file details into the File Notes feature and the DSS Marks will automatically be converted into Transcription Buddy bookmarks.

Current Dictation Buddy users may upgrade to Transcription Buddy Recorder Edition V3.0. However, we suggest that only users who make use of Dictation Buddy for transcription purposes upgrade to Transcription Buddy.

Current users who would like to upgrade to Transcription Buddy Recorder Edition, must contact High Criteria by June 21, 2003 to receive no-cost Transcription Buddy upgrade registration information.
