Sound Image Feature (Professional Edition Only)
The Professional Edition has a Sound Image feature that provides users with a graphical representation of the levels of the recorded sound. The Sound Image feature is illustrated above. The image has two displays. The upper display is a representation of the entire sound file. The lower display is local to the current position locator. Each graduation in the lower display represents one second and the entire local display shows about 26 seconds. As can be seen in the example, the display allows users to quickly find alterations in the level of recording. The entire file is displayed in the upper Window. In the example, at least four drops in the recording level are clearly visible. The current position locator, illustrated by the vertical red line, is located in the middle of the first drop. The local display (lower display) shows the 26 seconds around the current position locator in detail. The scale in the lower display is much smaller and allows for exact positioning of the current position locator. Two additional drops in level are also clearly visible and a forth drop may also be noted. Whenever the cursor hovers over either of the displays, its position in the file is provided in the display, just over top of the Manual Split box. To alter the current position locator, the cursor may be clicked at any point on the file display image. The Sound Image may also be displayed in a more concise display with three images of the sound. The first display is of the entire file. The second display (located below the first) is local to the drag bar located just below the display. The third and final display is local to the current position locator.
The Sound Image feature is a powerful facility that can be used to quickly determine break points in an audio file. The feature is often used in a file containing many songs, to easily determine when songs begin and when they end.
