Dictation Buddy is designed to work with the SpeechMike Pro recording microphone. In order to fully
utilize the features available on the SpeechMike Pro, users should take the following steps:
- Install the SpeechMike Pro and the associated software from the CD provided by Philips.
- In Dictation Buddy, go to View => Options => Recording and change the
Source Wave Device to USB Audio Device. If you want to use the speaker on the
Philips device, then also go to Options => Playback and change the Wave Device here to USB
Audio Device.
- Try some standard recording with Dictation Buddy. You should be able to use the
track ball mouse on the Speech Mike Pro and the left and right mouse buttons should
also work. The Trigger button on the underside of the SpeechMike Pro should also work
as a left mouse button.
The SpeechMike Pro has all of the functionality of a mouse, so selecting options on the
Dictation Buddy Window is quick and easy. For advanced users, additional buttons on the SpeechMike Pro may be programmed for:

Follow the next instructions to activate these SpeechMike buttons:
-
Download this file and copy it to the Program Files => Philips SpeechMike => SpeechMike directory
on your PC.
- Start the SpeechMike Control Application (Start => Programs => SpeechMike=> Control Application)
- In the SpeechMike Control Application, Open the DictationBuddy.scm file so it becomes the active scm
file. Leave the Speech Mike Control Application active in the background (it
must be active for the assigned keys to function).
- The special Dictation Buddy functions should now work. If you initially have any problems, re-boot your
PC and try the buttons again.
